BREAKING NEWS: AIRBNB HAS DISCOVERED THAT ADULTING IS A HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATION!

By Laurel Fleming ·

Congratulations, Airbnb! You've officially turned basic human decency into an unreasonable burden.

Starting November 20, 2026, Airbnb's new house rules policy restricts what property owners can ask guests to do. Apparently, expecting someone to clean up after themselves is dangerously close to operating a forced labor camp.

Let's examine this groundbreaking achievement in hospitality.

THE GREAT DISHWASHING CRISIS OF 2026

Airbnb says guests generally can't be required to wash and put away dishes.

Two-night stay? Fourteen-night stay? Who cares!

Leave Monday's seafood gumbo until Saturday. By checkout, the shrimp shells may have developed their own civilization, elected a mayor, and applied for Superhost status.

TRASH: THE GIFT THAT KEEPS ON GIVING

Airbnb says guests generally can't be required to take garbage offsite, and its automated checker has reportedly flagged requests involving outdoor trash containers.

Here on the Alabama Gulf Coast, where summer temperatures approach the surface of the sun, rotting garbage is an open invitation to every six-legged freeloader within five miles.

But don't worry! Airbnb won't be paying the exterminator.

DOG POOP: NATURE'S LITTLE SURPRISE PACKAGES

Requests to pick up dog waste have reportedly been flagged by Airbnb's automated checker as unacceptable chores.

Apparently, bending over with a plastic bag is an unreasonable hardship.

Meanwhile, the next family arrives, and the children discover the backyard's newest attraction: LANDMINE LOTTERY!

First prize: ruined shoes. Grand prize: an emergency bath.

CIGARETTE BUTTS: COMPLIMENTARY LANDSCAPING

Properly disposing of cigarette butts has reportedly been flagged, too.

Fantastic! Nothing enhances a beautiful coastal property quite like 37 cigarette butts scattered across the landscaping.

Perhaps we should advertise them as complimentary outdoor confetti. Very avant-garde!

WELCOME TO AIRBNB'S MYSTERY GUEST PROGRAM!

Airbnb is also restricting separate rental agreements, identification requirements, security deposits, and guest contact information, with limited exceptions.

So let's review.

I own the house. I pay the mortgage, taxes, insurance, maintenance, and repair bills. I assume the financial risk.

But Airbnb decides how much information I can collect about the person occupying my investment.

Who booked my house?

Apparently, Bob. His profile picture is a Labrador wearing a cowboy hat.

Is Bob actually Bob? Is he bringing his wife, six cousins, and a traveling circus?

WHO KNOWS?

But rest assured, Airbnb has a system. And I'm sure that Labrador will be extremely cooperative during the investigation.

A MESSAGE FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF FINANCIAL INSANITY

Airbnb already charges my business approximately 18.5% in host fees, an expense built into my Airbnb rental rates.

Now add potentially higher housekeeping bills, longer turnovers, increased pest control, maintenance expenses, and damage claims AirCover may or may not approve.

Suddenly, the housekeeper needs a hazmat suit and an archaeological permit.

And who pays for all this?

WE RAISE OUR RATES!

Congratulations, vacationers! You've saved yourself 45 seconds of effort and potentially made your next vacation more expensive.

ECONOMICS IS FUN!

BRIAN CHESKY, I'VE GOT A PROPOSAL!

Airbnb doesn't own our properties, pay our mortgages, replace our roofs, maintain our pools, or service our HVAC systems.

And when the AC quits at 5 PM on a Friday in August, when it's approximately 900 degrees outside?

BRIAN CHESKY ISN'T PULLING INTO MY DRIVEWAY WITH A TOOLBOX.

I AM!

When the toilet backs up? ME.

When the refrigerator dies? ME.

When someone can't operate the television remote despite having three college degrees? STILL ME.

Meanwhile, Airbnb operates its booking platform, processes payments, and collects its cut.

So, Brian, let's imagine a little experiment at your personal residence.

I'll cook a magnificent seafood feast and leave every dirty dish behind.

I'll let the garbage develop a personality.

I'll bring the dogs and let them contribute to your landscaping. Think of it as organic fertilizer!

And I'll scatter a few cigarette butts for that authentic vacation-rental aesthetic.

Then I'll leave a glowing review:

"Five stars! Beautiful home. Excellent location. Host was strangely obsessed with sanitation. Would definitely recommend!"

TO EVERY GUEST CHEERING THESE CHANGES...

Imagine coming home to dirty dishes, rotting garbage, dog poop scattered across your lawn, and cigarette butts decorating your patio.

Then someone tells you:

"What's the problem? You can't expect people to do CHORES!"

Apparently, what's unacceptable in YOUR home should be perfectly acceptable in MINE.

GOOD FOR THE GOOSE, GOOD FOR THE GANDER!

Here's what Airbnb doesn't seem to understand.

We're not asking guests to scrub toilets, mop floors, wash sheets, or polish furniture.

WE PAY HOUSEKEEPERS TO DO THAT.

We're asking grown adults to dispose of garbage responsibly, pick up after their pets, use an ashtray, and respect someone else's investment.

THAT'S NOT HOUSEKEEPING. THAT'S BASIC HUMAN DECENCY.

Perhaps Airbnb should spend less time developing software that flags dog poop as a household chore and more time listening to the people whose properties make its business possible.

Because without hosts, Airbnb is just an expensive website with nothing to rent.

P.S. To the guests celebrating these changes: Enjoy your historic victory over the dishwasher!

When your next vacation costs more, remember this moment.

YOU WON THE RIGHT TO LEAVE A DIRTY FORK IN THE SINK.

What a time to be alive!
